WASHINGTON — The cable channel that televises every minute that the U.S. House and Senate are in session has shored up its finances, and that means Punxsutawney Phil’s annual mention in a congressional floor speech is secure too.

Once a year, C-SPAN cameras capture Rep. Glenn Thompson on the House floor waxing poetic about one of the “hardest working, most reliable job producers in my district.” Yes, he’s referring to the groundhog that allegedly predicts the weather every Feb. 2 in Punxsutawney, a town northwest of Pittsburgh in Thompson’s congressional district.
