Red Wings open with ugly loss that draws boos, coach's criticism

Well, that was ugly.

The Detroit Red Wings ’ 5-1 season-opening loss to the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, Oct. 9, got so gruesome that it should have come with a mature-audience warning – as in it wasn’t suitable viewing for mature audiences like old-timers who remember the Wings’ glory years of the late 1990s.
