The Kerala High Court on Friday ordered the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged tampering of gold at Sabarimala temple to complete its investigation and submit a report within six weeks.

This comes following revelations that over 4.5 kg of gold went missing during restoration work of the Dwarapalaka (guardian deity) idols in 2019.

The court directed the state police to register a criminal case regarding the “misappropriation of gold” from the shrine’s side frames or lintels.

The bench of Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan V and KV Jayakumar noted that the vigilance report revealed a substantial quantity of gold, approximately 474.9 grams, had been handed over to Unnikrishnan Potty, the sponsor of the gold-plating work.
