WASHINGTON — The winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was announced early Friday morning.
Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader, was selected by the five-person Norwegian Nobel Committee and revealed in Oslo, Norway. The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it was honoring her “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
Leading up to Friday's announcement , U.S. President Donald Trump’s bid to win the Nobel Peace Prize drew added attention to the annual guessing game over who its next laureate would be.
