AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Augusta University is remembering one of their own with a new scholarship.

Family, friends and colleagues of Jason McKenzie created the Jason McKenzie Memorial Golf Scholarship Endowment.

Officials say the scholarship will go to student athletes who show his compassion, humility, kindness and generosity.

Jaliyah Butler’s family believes she died doing what she was known for: protecting others.

McKenzie was a member of AU’s philanthropy team and supporter of Jaguar Athletics.

In May 2024, McKenzie died after taking off from Daniel Field Airport in his plane .

First responders credit McKenzie’s piloting for avoiding further deaths and injuries in the crash.
