Police are investigating after a 17-year-old died in a shooting in the Hill District on Thursday night.

At 8:50 p.m., police were dispatched to the 2300 block of Wylie Avenue in Middle Hill to respond to a ShotSpotter alert that recorded 20 rounds, according to Pittsburgh Public Safety.

At the scene, authorities said they found a teenage male victim, later identified as Joseph Powell of Beechview, with gunshot wounds in his chest and leg.

Paramedics performed an emergency whole blood in the field transfusion, officials said.

The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died, according to the medical examiner’s office.
