TAMPA, Fla. — A Hillsborough County jury recommended the death penalty this week for a man convicted of killing his girlfriend and her 4-year-old daughter in a Dover mobile home.
The jury returned a guilty verdict for Angel Cuz Choc. He was on trial for the April 22, 2024 deaths of Amalia Coc Choc de Pec and her 4-year-old daughter Estrella. Cuz Choc, 32, was found guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated child abuse.
The jury voted 10 to 2 to recommend the death penalty.
During the trial, Cuz Choc said he blacked out and didn’t remember killing de Pec, 36, and the child.
As of 2023, death penalty recommendations do not need to be unanimous. They only require a minimum 8 to 4 majority.
A judge will make the final decision later this year.
