The Houston ISD school board voted to fire Michelle Williams, a third grade teacher at Benbrook Elementary, on Thursday.

Williams, who is also the president of the Houston Education Association union, was removed from her classroom at the end of August and assigned home duty with pay for "not following protocols," accusations of insubordination, and claims she has repeatedly refused to implement HISD curriculum.

The board voted unanimously at 10pm Thursday night to officially terminate her contract and authorized Superintendent Mike Miles to give Williams notice of the terms discussed in closed session.

"I mean, I'm not surprised, I'm not surprised at all," Williams said.

Houston ISD did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

She plans to appeal her termination
