100 years ago
A cigarette dropped from the highway in front of Q.D. Standiford’s home in Orchards on Oct. 5, 1925, ignited grass and “burned over into the yard.” The fire would have caused more damage, but children playing in front of the house “succeeded in putting the flames out.”
75 years ago
On Oct. 11, 1950, Art Kegler, associated student body president at Clark Junior College, announced homecoming activities at the school would take place Nov. 9-10. Highlights included the Clark-Centralia football game; a bonfire and rally presided over by the homecoming queen; and parade floats and decorated cars touring downtown Vancouver.
