Sixty-two employees at the Reynolds School District were put on notice this week that their jobs could end or shift in a month’s time, if the district and its employees cannot agree before then on an alternative plan to solve a $5.5 million budget shortfall.
The school district and unions representing teachers and support staff have been going back and forth for months , trying to find a way around yet more layoffs, after the district shed 117 positions last spring. That wasn’t enough to close the district’s budget gap, requiring the two sides to come back to the table this fall.
