Blades’ Vaughan blanks Canadiens

Russell Vaughan had a 39-save shutout Thursday in the Blenheim Blades’ 3-0 win over the previously unbeaten Lakeshore Canadiens in the Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Stobbs Division.

Dominic Goure and Andrew Goulet scored power-play goals in the first and second period, respectively, before 259 fans at Blenheim Memorial Arena. Brad McAlpine added an empty-netter.

Vaughan protected the lead in the third period while the Canadiens (6-1-0-0) outshot the Blades 21-7.

The Blades (6-3-0-0) are off until Sunday, Oct. 19, when the Essex 73’s visit Blenheim at 7 p.m.

Wild goalie Sterling makes 41 saves

Jackson Sterling made 41 saves and Eric Bowen scored Thursday in the Walpole Island Wild’s 4-1 loss to the Mooretown Flags in the PJHL’s Stobbs Division.
