LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A man originally charged with murder in a 2021 Lexington shooting has entered a Alford plea to a lesser charge.
In court Friday morning, Deonte Carter entered the plea to second-degree manslaughter in the death of Devon Sandusky.
An Alford plea means the defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges that prosecutors have enough evidence to secure a conviction.
The shooting happened in December 2021 in the 800 block of Oak Hill Drive. Sandusky was found with a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Carter was already in jail when he was charged in Sandusky’s death. He is also a suspect in the January 2022 killing of Kobby Martin on Cantrill Drive.
Carter is scheduled to be sentenced on December 4.
