A macabre replay of the sinister serial slayings of pig farmer Robert Pickton is unfolding in a courtroom a world away.
South African farmer Zachariah Johannes Olivier and his friend William Musora are on trial for the horrific murders of Maria Makgato, 45, and Lucia Ndlovu, 34.
The two women were killed while allegedly looking for food on a farm near Polokwane in South Africa’s northern Limpopo province last year. After they were shot, a farmhand was ordered to feed their bodies to Olivier’s pigs.
Farm supervisor Adrian de Wet, 21, testified he was told by Olivier to throw the bodies inside a pig enclosure, because “when pigs are hungry enough, they’ll eat anything.” The two victims were Black.
