Forget the teachers: it's the students' turn to enjoy some apples.

(Don't worry, the teachers can have some too.)

Harrison Elementary School in East Chicago is the latest to participate in the Midwest Great Apple Crunch, which is exactly what it sounds like: At exactly the same time — 10:10 on Oct. 10 — all the students bite down on an apple (and hopefully don't leave the core inside their desks).

"It's kind of crunchy," said third grader Alejandro de anda Garcia, who prefers oranges but had no complaints about the apple tasting. "We've learned that fruit and vegetables make you grow."
