Nainital : In Uttarakhand, health officials are sounding the alarm as fresh cases of “tomato flu” emerge across the state. So far, 28 cases have been confirmed, with the highest number in Sitarganj, Udham Singh Nagar district.
The outbreak has prompted the government to launch strict surveillance in schools, residential areas, and clinics.
It is a Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD), caused by the Coxsackievirus
“Tomato flu,” scientifically known as Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD), is caused by the Coxsackievirus. Although it mainly affects children, adults with weakened immunity can also catch it. The Health Department has instructed block medical officers to promptly identify, report, and ensure samples reach district labs for diagnosis.
Virus spreads through droplets from cou
