Perry Tole, the 69-year-old man who Mark Sanchez allegedly assaulted, has broken his silence for the first time since he was forced to stab the former NFL quarterback.

Tole reportedly said that “faith guided his hands” when he stabbed the former Jets quarterback in what he told police was an act of self-defense.

Tole was reportedly driving a cooking oil recycling collection truck on a route in Indianapolis when he parked his truck at a loading dock in an alley between the Westin and Marriott downtown hotels. That is when he first encountered Sanchez.

The former New York Jets quarterback was in town to get ready to call the game between the Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders on Fox Sports. He would ultimately be replaced by former Notre Dame football quarterback Brady Quinn.
