Flames broke out Thursday night at a multi-family home in New Bedford, Massachusetts, with almost a dozen people inside, leading to one person being hospitalized with serious injuries.
The New Bedford Fire Department says there were multiple 911 calls reporting a fire with people possibly trapped at 396-398 Elm Street just after 8:30 p.m. Crews were told enroute that that one third-floor tenant was at a window and needed help.

Working smoke detectors alerted the occupants to the fire, officials said, and 10 of the 11 people inside were able to escape on their own, but firefighters arrived on scene to find one victim at a window on the third floor.
