Kelowna MP Stephen Fuhr released this press release from Canada's federal government on affordability, Friday at 8 a.m. (PT).

New Measures – Bringing Down Costs for Families

1. Establishing an automatic federal benefits for certain low-income individuals, which will make it easier to receive government benefits such as Canada Child Benefit, GST credit. This will include:

• Preparing a pre-filled tax return in My Account for about 1 million individuals with simple tax situations starting in 2027, scaling to 2.5 million individuals in 2028;

• Beginning to automatically file a tax return on behalf of about 3,000 low-income filers in 2026, increasing to about 50,000 filers by 2028; and

• Continuing to add new information to its secure digital service that helps indi-viduals using certifie
