HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - Indiana State Representative Tim O'Brien says to commemorate Indiana Statehood Day on December 11, Hoosier fourth graders can participate in an essay competition to learn more about and celebrate the state.

Officials say this year's theme is "Explore Indiana!" That can include aspects like the state's history, landscapes and sports teams. The contest is open to all Hoosier fourth graders to help emphasize the Indiana history portion of their academic curriculum. Essays should be between 100 and 300 words and can be handwritten or typed. Entries must be emailed or postmarked by October 20.
