An apartment building in Layton is a total loss after a fire Friday morning. The fire tore through the Layton Meadows Apartments, 480 W. 1425 North.

The fire impacted twenty-four units, but all 37 occupants are accounted for, said Clint Drake, Layton’s city attorney. Three of the unit’s buildings were evacuated. Red Cross disaster services program manager Sarah Marshall said 80 people were evacuated.

Two responding officers were treated for smoke inhalation before being taken to a hospital and later released, Drake said. Two other officers were treated on scene.

Keith Paul, regional communications director at Red Cross, said an emergency shelter for individuals displaced by the fire will be located at a meetinghouse of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 202 W. 1675 North
