The Mumbai Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday nabbed a Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) officer for allegedly demanding a bribe to not act against owners of a Bandra row house who had put up an illegal shed on it and used it to house paying guests.

An official said that MHADA had sent a letter to the complainant stating that an illegal shed had been constructed at the row house which was in his wife’s name. It further claimed that the row house was being used commercially for a paying guest business and that action will be taken against the row house.

In order not to take action, the public servant Ranjit Balasaheb Chavan, Executive Engineer, MHADA, Bandra Division, is alleged to have initially demanded a bribe of Rs. four lakh from the complainant.
