NEWAYGO COUNTY, MI - It sounds like two bear hunters picked a bad time to break the rules recently.

While Michigan DNR Conservation Officer Cameron Wright was attending an event at the Grass Lake Hunt Club in Newaygo County, talking about trespassing issues the club had been having with hunters who use packs of hounds, he heard hounds baying nearby. The club land is private property and no one had been given permission to hunt there.

“CO Wright contacted two bear hound hunters down the road who were actively running a black bear through club property,” according to a recent enforcement report from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. “At the time of contact, the pack of dogs were observed on GPS in the middle of the 4,000-acre hunt club.”
