New Zealand’s Parliament descended into chaos on Thursday when an unsanctioned haka erupted in the public gallery, and some members of parliament joined in. The unplanned haka, which is a traditional Maori dance, followed the maiden speech from Te Pati Maori’s new member, Oriini Kaipara, who stood barefoot, and sang a traditional song that had been sanctioned. “No, not that! The guarantee was that would not be taking place,” Speaker Gerry Brownlee lamented, before halting the session.
