When Casey Holman was growing up in rural Ray County, he noticed that many of his classmates didn’t know where their food came from. That realization sparked a mission to reconnect people with the land.
“About second grade on, I really noticed that us farm kids and a lot of kids that grew up in the city or towns were really separated from the farm,” Holman said. “So as I grew up, I figured, well, we’ve got to do something about getting people connected back to the land and back to their food.”
In 2018, Holman founded the Fraternal Order of the Mountain Man Ministries, focused on teaching skills for farming, homesteading, and self-sufficiency. That mission is now coming to life this weekend as he is putting on the Homesteading in Missouri Northwest Regional Conference, a two-day heritage
