BRAINERD — Crow Wing County and a county jail correctional officer are being sued in federal court for the death of Robert Arthur Slaybaugh, who died by suicide while in custody at the Crow Wing County Jail in February 2024.
The lawsuit contains three counts — two violations of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees due process and equal protection rights, and one claim of wrongful death under Minnesota state law — against Corrections Officer Brady Anderson and Crow Wing County.
Susan Slaybaugh, Robert Slaybaugh's wife, brought the lawsuit Thursday, Oct. 9, in U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota as trustee for his next of kin “seeking justice for her husband and to spur reform within the Crow Wing County Jail,” according to the news release from Storm
