JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. —

A woman was killed and a child injured in a crash in Jefferson County, Friday, according to the sheriff's office.

It happened around 6:30 a.m. on Highway 79 (Pinson Valley Parkway) between Carson Road and Jefferson State Park.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been released.

Center Point Fire and Rescue crews transported a juvenile girl to Children's of Alabama Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway has reopened after being closed for several hours in both directions while traffic was rerouted.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
