New Delhi: The numbers were grim for Jasmine Paolini as she stepped onto the court for their Wuhan Open quarterfinal. Six matches, six losses, just one set, one that was her record against Iga Swiatek, but in a stunning fashion, she flipped the script.
Paolini demolished the World No.2 with straight wins as she won 6-1, 6-2, which lasted 65 minutes. It was her first-ever win over the Wimbledon champion and one of the most dominant performances of her career. The result not only sent her into the semifinals of the Wuhan Open but also boosted her chances of qualifying for the WTA Finals in Riyadh.
The 29-year-old came out firing, breaking Swiatek at love in the opening game and racing to a 4-0 lead. Her timing and precision were exceptional as she fed off Swiatek’s pace and rarely missed.
