CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Travel is expected to surge this long weekend as workers and students take advantage of the extra day off to hit the road.
According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, travelers are advised to avoid midday and peak hours on Fridays and Saturdays due to anticipated congestion.
"Anytime there is a long weekend, there's a chance people will take advantage of that extra day off and maybe take a road trip!" said Lauren Fabrizi, AAA Northeast spokesperson.
On the return journey, the busiest time is expected to be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, with continued traffic throughout the afternoon.
