SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - State officials announced Friday that that 22 firefighters have graduated from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s 50-day career recruit firefighting training program.

The graduating firefighters represent the western Massachusetts districts of Amherst, Belchertown, Greenfield, Longmeadow, Monson, Northampton, and West Springfield.

The students received training for basic firefighting skills and, to graduate, they showed excellence in multiple categories like search and rescue, water supply, and fire attack. Through these exercises, the firefighting academy believes they now have the tools to work with veteran firefighters.
