A freight train's collision with a stranded tractor-trailer froze one of Grovetown's busiest − and most awkward − intersections at about noon Friday and carried over well into the afternoon.

Crews began cleaning up debris from the crash while officers helped detour traffic away from the crash site, where Katherine Street meets Old Wrightsboro Road.

Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens said in emails to The Augusta Chronicle on Friday that although he is out of town, he said there are no reported injuries, but "the cleanup is going to take a while."

The train did not derail, and there are no issues with spilled hazardous materials, Kitchens said.
