The Government has responded to calls for the school week to be cut from five to four days after more than 100,000 people signed a petition. The response says there are no plans to reduce the school week as regular attendance at school is vital for children’s education .

The petition on the Parliament website has received over 122,000 signatures, and urges the Government to require all schools to reduce the school week to four instead of five days by making each school day one hour longer.

Because the petition has so many signatures, the Government has sent a written response and will consider the issue for debate in Parliament.
