A young shooting victim ran into a building near the National Mall for help Friday afternoon, with one Smithsonian museum closing an entrance in the aftermath.

First responders were called to the 600 block of Maryland Avenue SW about 1:30 p.m., where they found an "older juvenile" with a gunshot wound, according to D.C. police.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting or where exactly it happened, but the victim ran into a building in that block for help. The location is near the National Mall, and additional police from other federal agencies also responded to the scene and cordoned off the area.
