Reverend Wendell E. Mettey, the founder of Matthew 25: Ministries, a humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization headquartered in Blue Ash, Ohio, has died.

His family announced his passing Friday. He died on Monday, surrounded by family. Advertisement

Mettey was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, started his career serving others as a social worker before being called to ministry.

He served as a pastor at the Walnut Hills Baptist Church and later Montgomery Community Baptist Church.

He went on to found Matthew 25: Ministries in 1991, which has grown to become a large nonprofit now serving millions across the country and world, shipping tens of millions of pounds of humanitarian aid a year in response to global disasters.
