Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday hailed U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to help negotiate a breakthrough ceasefire deal for Gaza and commented on the American leader being passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Speaking to reporters on a visit to Tajikistan, Putin said it wasn't up to him to judge whether Trump should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but he praised the deal for Gaza as a major achievement and a “historic event” if it’s implemented successfully.
Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado was awarded the prize on Friday.
Putin didn’t comment on Machado’s win, but he charged without mentioning any names that the Nobel Committee in the past had awarded the Peace Prize to those who have accomplished little to help global peace.
