Don’t listen to the haters: Union Square is the place to be.

At least that was the case Tuesday as celebrity chef Michael Mina and Golden State Warriors legend Stephen Curry hosted a VIP preview of their new restaurant and bar collaboration, Bourbon Steak and The Eighth Rule in the Westin St. Francis hotel lobby. The establishments officially open Friday night.

After a rousing performance by the Gay Men’s Chorus in the plaza, the pair rolled up on a Powell Street cable car along with Mayor Daniel Lurie, Marriott area general manager Clif Clark, and other notable stakeholders in the project. A crowd of at least 1,000, decked out in cocktail attire thunderously applauded the arrival of the cable car. The historic vessel parked in front of this year’s Hunky Jesus winner, Westley Walker
