EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-El Paso, said she has put in a formal request to withhold her pay during the government shutdown.
She said on Friday, Oct. 10 that she had put in a written request with the administrative officer for the U.S. House of Representatives to withhold her pay.
Escobar said: “If federal employees aren’t getting paid, members of Congress shouldn’t either. I’m withholding my own pay until all 18,000 federal employees in El Paso and all service members at Fort Bliss are paid.”
The federal government has been shut down since 10 p.m. El Paso time on Sept. 30 after members of Congress were unable to come up with an agreement on spending.
