The list of state-ranked football teams in the Monroe County Region is growing.

Jefferson made its first appearance in the Michigan Sportswriters Division 5 Top 10 this week, grabbing the final spot.

That puts the Bears in a club that already included St. Mary Catholic Central (No. 1 Division 7), Gibraltar Carlson (No. 3 in Division 2) and Whiteford (No. 8 Division 7).

Ida is right on the verge, coming into Week 7 at No. 11 in Division 6.

Carlson faces the biggest test this week, making a short trip to Woodhaven for a battle of 6-0 teams tonight.

SMCC also is faced with a tricky contest, hosting 4-2 Riverview a week ahead of its showdown with Jefferson.
