Matias Maccelli ended last season, the worst of his NHL career, fighting for minutes in Utah. Six months later, he’s on the first line of a Maple Leafs team with Stanley Cup dreams.

The 24-year-old winger practised with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies again on Friday morning after notching an assist on the top unit in Wednesday night’s 5-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens to open the regular season at Scotiabank Arena.

“I think as a line we had a couple good looks. Still early, first game, so we’re working on it,” Maccelli said after practice.
