This year’s municipal election will fall on Diwali — a scheduling conflict that has some candidates in wards with large South Asian populations concerned about voter turnout.
Diwali, which is observed on Oct. 20 this year, is an important religious and cultural celebration for thousands of Calgarians who practise Hinduism, Sikhism or Jainism.
