ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A green hydrogen producer in Henrietta is among hundreds of projects nationwide losing federal funding under a recent decision by the Biden administration.

Plug Power Inc. will lose more than $70 million in federal grants: part of $7.6 billion in cuts to 223 projects across the country. The company is one of two organizations in Monroe County affected by the decision.

According to a news release from the governor’s office, New York state will see nearly $500 million in funding cuts to businesses and clean energy programs.

Henrietta Town Supervisor Stephen Schultz expressed frustration over the move.

“This is playing politics,” Schultz said. “The idea that they can’t afford it is B.S. when you look at all the other stuff they’re spending money on.”
