Los Angeles city, county and federal government offices will be closed Monday for Indigenous People’s Day and the Columbus Day holiday.
While the city and county of Los Angeles observe Indigenous People’s Day on the second Monday of October annually, the federal government has made a point this year of declaring it Columbus Day. Federal offices and courts will be closed.
But the state of California does not observe Columbus Day or Indigenous People’s Day as a state holiday, so criminal and civil courts will remain open on seemingly limited schedules. Schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District will also be open.
The U.S. Postal Service does not deliver regular mail on the holiday, and post offices will be closed.
