Radio presenter Jackie O, whose real name is Jacqueline Henderson, has expressed concerns for her family's safety after being targeted by a stalker. The co-host of the Kyle & Jackie O Show received up to 2,000 messages on social media from a man over a five-month period. The messages, sent via Instagram, were from David Gourlay, a 38-year-old unemployed man who detailed graphic sexual fantasies involving Henderson.
Henderson did not respond to the messages but documented them in approximately 700 screenshots, each containing up to five messages. Many of Gourlay's communications included personal information about Henderson and her family, despite the two having never met. In one message dated July 3, he wrote, "I am not giving up on us," and later that day, he sent a bouquet of flowers to her home.
The situation escalated to the point where Henderson feared for her family's safety, as Gourlay had knowledge of her residence. Police traced the flower delivery, which was mistakenly addressed to "Jackie Anderson," back to Gourlay, who had provided his mobile number. Authorities found him sitting on a bench across from Henderson's home and took him into custody. He was subsequently taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
On Wednesday, Gourlay appeared in Downing Centre Local Court, where he pleaded guilty to stalking Henderson and using Instagram in a menacing, harassing, or offensive manner. Prosecutors withdrew five additional charges, including one related to being armed with the intent to commit an indictable offense. Gourlay is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
A five-year apprehended violence order has been issued against Gourlay, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting Henderson, except through a lawyer. This order, which will remain in effect until 2030, also forbids him from assaulting, threatening, stalking, or harassing Henderson or anyone with whom she has a domestic relationship.
In a separate matter, Henderson and her co-host Kyle Sandilands are facing scrutiny over multiple breaches of the Commercial Radio Code of Practice. Their KIIS FM breakfast show was found to have violated decency rules seven times between August and December 2024. Incidents included broadcasting audio clips of staff members urinating and a game involving an offensive sexual description. Despite these controversies, the Kyle & Jackie O Show has maintained strong ratings in Sydney but has struggled to gain traction in the Melbourne market since its launch there in April 2024. The hosts signed a 10-year contract extension in 2023 reportedly worth over $200 million.
