Walker County will receive $25,000 through a federal grant program that is given by the Historic Preservation Division of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.
The funds will be used for the second phase of a resurvey of historic resources in the county.
The project includes reviewing over 250 potentially historic resources in the southern area of the county between Highway 151 and West Armuchee Valley Road.
The research team selected will be tasked with looking at:
Residential buildings
Commercial buildings
Community landmark buildings
Agriculture buildings
It will also look at other structures and objects like water towers, wells, bridges, fortifications, sculptures, monuments, and fountains.
