NEW ORLEANS — Derrick Groves, the last of 10 inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center, has been brought back to Louisiana after being captured in Georgia.

Groves was arrested on Wednesday in southwest Atlanta after a standoff with U.S. Marshals and Atlanta SWAT officers.

Groves appeared in a Georgia courtroom Thursday and agreed to be extradited. He told the judge, “I want to return where I’m from.”

According to Louisiana State Police, Groves was flown from Atlanta to Baton Rouge. From there, he was taken by helicopter to a secure prison facility.

"This marks the conclusion of a coordinated, multi-agency effort that spanned several states and showcased strong partnerships across law enforcement," the agency said in a Facebook post.
