A transport and logistics giant has been fined more than $600,000 after a worker’s legs were crushed and fractured by a reversing forklift.
The Toll Transport employee was marking freight bays at its busy Perth Airport hub in January 2021 when, while bending over, he was wiped out.
He suffered serious injuries to both legs, including fractures and crush injuries, WorkSafe WA said.
Part of his left leg was also degloved in the shocking emergency and he has since undergone five surgeries.
It happened in an area where freight was delivered and sorted before being loaded onto road trains and sent to mine sites.
At the time, the man had been employed as a forklift driver but was on light duties after returning to work from a shoulder injury.
