NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A major construction project is in the planning stages along the Cross Bronx Expressway, but decisions must be made about traffic flow and the impact on surrounding areas.

Traffic diversions were being considered, including building a temporary roadway around Starlight Park.

Any temporary expansion of the roadway is off the table, and a long-range conversation includes plans for parks, public transit, bikes, and environmental concerns.

Nilka Martell is a borough resident and member of the Bronx River Alliance.

“Today is a big deal, a true result of people's power. Our voices were raised for months, pushing against the plan,” Martell said.
