OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - The Hy-Vee store in North Omaha’s Florence Neighborhood closed its doors Oct. 13, surprising longtime customers who received no advance warning.

The closure leaves only one full-service grocery store to serve four area neighborhoods.

This comes as alcohol retailers, cannabis and kratom shops, and adult stores continue to operate along North 30th Street. Even a recently opened healthy food convenience store prominently displays alcohol in its front window.

Doug Rose, a decades-long Florence resident, discovered the closure when he found a note posted on the front door.

“Totally surprised, did not see it coming at all,” Rose said. “I saw a note on the front door saying they were closing as of the 13th at 8 o’clock, and no communication before.”
