MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — Several beekeepers across West Virginia have run into roadblocks when it comes to creating apiaries, including city or town districts requiring permits or completely banning them in their entirety.

These regulations are actually illegal, as the West Virginia Apiary Act designates all authority over beehives to the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. To counter this, beekeepers throughout the state have banded together to create the "omnibus bee bill" to help eliminate this issue and support the flourishing of bee colonies.

Mike Lamp, president of the West Virginia Beekeepers Association, told 12 News of some of the instances that led to drafting the bill.
