French President Emmanuel Macron on Friday re-appointed Sebastien Lecornu as prime minister, just four days after his resignation, asking him to form a new Cabinet and deliver a budget by year’s end.

The decision came after days of frantic backroom talks and a two-hour meeting between Macron and party leaders. France has been mired in a political stalemate since the president dissolved parliament in June 2024, triggering snap elections that produced a hung National Assembly and left Macron’s centrist bloc without a majority.
