COLUMBIA, S.C. — Friday was World Homeless Day, a day to raise awareness and take action.

The City of Columbia and Parks and Recreation came together at Martin Luther King Jr. Park to bring resources to the homeless community.

The event included a community resource fair that provided free meals, free haircuts, and access to health education and employment opportunities.

"To know that somebody out there needs help and we have the ability to help them, I love it. I would do anything I can to help somebody," one participant said.

“I expected upwards of 200 people,” said Johnasten Cooper, the city's homeless service project coordinator. “We were fortunate enough to get several partners that wanted to donate food, so we have food to feed over 350 individuals today.”
